How Do I Become a Mortgage and Protection Adviser?

Mortgage and Protection Advisers with Spicerhaart’s financial services company Just Mortgages have the rewarding job of helping clients find the best deal available for them when applying for a mortgage, but how do you become one?

To legally practise as a Mortgage and Protection Adviser, you will need a CeMAP qualification, a Certificate in Mortgage Advice and Practice. This can be undertaken before you join Just Mortgages or we will help you obtain this through our Training Academy.

We are constantly investing in staff training and development so that we can give industry-leading advice about all the different mortgage and protection products on offer. Our in-house team are on hand and highly skilled at delivering this.

What Does a Mortgage Adviser Do?

You will be giving advice to people buying property including new homes, plus to landlords who are purchasing through Buy-to-let. Plus some people will need to re-mortgage their existing homes.

A typical day would consist of first appointments, generating new business and working on your current cases. You’ll identify the needs of a client and offer advice and products to best suit their requirements, ensuring your client fully understands the products and services available to them.

You’ll also be liaising with the estate agents and teams within our branches to ensure they are identifying new customers who require financial services.

Your job is to support people on their home-buying journey every step of the way, until they receive the keys to their new home.

Further Career Development

Once you’ve qualified, you’ll be able to move up through the career ladder thanks to our LEAD programme, where we find and support the leaders of the future.

Qualifications are an important part of becoming a Mortgage Adviser, but you also need to make sure you understand the industry and have excellent skills in communication, customer service, computer skills and much more.
